The catalogue is about the characteristic and influential late work of the German sculptor Gustav Seitz.
His work was extensively shown in the German pavillon on the Biennale in Venice 1968, one year before he died.
Study drawings of the subjects "Catcher" and "Idols" complete the powerful appearance of his sculptures, which are unique among the figurative works of German sculptors.

For the first time the late bronze reliefs of the German sculptor Gustav Seitz from the years 1963-1969 are completely published in this book, together with some preparatory drawings. The reliefs, having been presented in the German pavillon on the Biennale in Venice 1968, are a climax in the sculptor's œuvre. Gustav Seitz planned to join together most of the reliefs to the "Porta d' Amore" - a door with two leafs in bronze, now at the Kunst- und Gewerbemuseum in Hamburg, Germany.
This door carries on the Christian tradition of portal-doors to a sensuous worldliness.
