The classic cylindrical mitre rests elegantly on Vishnu's forehead, above his wide and well-modelled face. The powerful back, strong enough to hold the weight of four arms, helps to accentuate the sense of the hieratic presence emanating from this sculpture which, nonetheless, is quite small. The figure is dressed in a sampot tied at the waist with a central knot that falls to the ankles and is marked by two folds below the knees. The light fabric does not hide the full and vigorous forms of the young god, and furthermore emphasizes his sensuality to the point that we almost forget the statue's static frontal posture. |
